Pahk Min-A

Lee Dong-Gwi
Abstract
This study examined the sequential meditation effect of social support and healthy narcissism on the relationship between posttraumatic stress symptom experience and posttraumatic growth. Participants included 185 adults who met study criteria for having had a traumatic experience. Online and offline surveys were administered, with offline data collected in Seoul and the Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Hayes¡¯ PROCESS Macro (2013) for SPSS (Model 6) was used to analyze the data. Results indicated that: (a) the mediation effect of healthy narcissism in the link between posttraumatic stress symptom experience and posttraumatic growth, (b) the sequential meditation effects of social support and healthy narcissism linked posttraumatic stress symptom experience and posttraumatic growth, and (c) for healthy narcissism, the full mediation effect was significant. This study extends the posttraumatic growth literature related to the self-other relationship by considering narcissism in addition to the role of perceived social support. Implications and recommendations for further research are presented.
